Can you level a floor with timber/masonite/concrete?

Hi, we recently pulled up the carpet in our kitchen to find a very uneven floor. The floor is half floorboards with a large concrete L shape through the middle (presumably an old wall?). The floorboards have then been covered with masonite to bring it level with the concrete.

We were hoping to get the old floorboards restored but we have been informed this would involve building a new sub floor and laying new boards. I was wondering if there was a way around rebuilding the sub floor and then we could potentially lay a floating floor, tiles or vinyl instead of using the old floorboards? Is it possible to level something this bad?

Any change of floor levels in a kitchen will involve appliances and units and door thresholds.

Bringing the wood floor up to the concrete floor and bridging the gap or join - there have been a number of recent posts on this subject, perhaps use the Search facility to read them?
