I recently changed some parts in my boiler and lost some water . I was about to put in some fernox but I don't know what was put In previously ( my gas guy didn't fit it ) . Would it be bad having 2 types of inhibitor in the system ?(it's been over 10 years since the old stuff was put in )

what did you change that lost water?

if you only lost a rads worth or so then i would nt bother topping up any more.

however in answer to your question, the manufacturers official line is that they cant be mixed, so you should really drain the system down and then refill with new inhibitor.

my personal thoughts on it are it really wont make a squat of difference mixing the brands. Its an inhibitor and made with similar chemicals (to stop the system from oxidising)

Do you have a benchmark book for your boiler install ? it should tell you what was used in there

I've changed a radiator + drained the boiler down to change a part in the diverter valve.
I do have all the installation stuff but it doesn't mention chemicals

as you are unsure what or maybe even IF any inhibitor has been used, prob be best to drain the system and fill with your choice and make a note of it for future.

Not sure if this would make any difference but before I repaired the diverter valve I had a leak , I was topping up the boiler every week for 6 months .

Probabaly mostly diluted now anyway then just use what you want, but on the bottle there is a little sticker, you peel that off and fill in the date part on it and stick somewhere on the boiler for future referance

I've got some fernox express , I'm just going to let some water out and squirt it in through the filling loop , hopefully everything goes well !

can you post a pic of your filling loop and the pipes it joins, so many installed the wrong way round if yours is you wont be able to inject it that way
