Can you remove an electric fire but keep the surround?

Hi

I have no idea of what I want to do is achievable, basically I want to remove our electric fire and just put logs in the alcove instead of a fireplace? Is it possible to remove the fire without destroying the surround though and replace the base with slate?

You can easily remove the fire and leave the fire surround intact. You may need to line the builders opening or clean it up somewhat to have an acceptable finish otherwise it will look grubby.
It looks like a class 1 flue so you may find a bigger catchment area ( space ) back there than you expect when you take the fire out !
