We currently have wooden casement windows each with 4 panes of double glazing. It's a new-build so the glazing is very thin and does **** all to keep heat in or noise out.

Is it possible to replace the panes with thicker double glazed panels or is my only choice to replace the entire window?

Cheers!

It all depends on the depth of the rebate. If as you say it is a new build the depth will match the existing glazing so i am affraid you are snookered.

Unless the house you've bought has no building regs you've got windows that meet the required standard, whatever glazing modifications you fitted will still be negated by the trickle vents. There's a clash between the regs with regards to heat loss and ventilation and no easy/cheap way of getting round it.
