Really odd. The wifi in my local is playing up.

IPCONFIG/ALL shows a gateway address of 192.168.1.1

Even after a reboot, once internet access is restored, I cannot ping the gateway. I can however ping 8.8.8.8

I think the router is a Vigor.

How can it be that the router is declining pings to the default gateway.

My knowledge is limited to domestic routers.

It's possible that ping is blocked by the router's firewall, but that seems unusual for a domestic router. It's not required for the gateway gateway/router to do it's job and since you can ping the Google DNS IP this suggests the gateway is doing it's job.

Sorry.

I have only just discovered that it operates on two different subnets. One for the security cameras, point of sale machines etc., and one for punters to access the internet.

It looks like that because I am accessing it via the punter wifi, it declines direct pings.

That sounds like its setup as intended in that case. punters free wifi is protected from scanning the network and possibly isolated from each other too.

I think you are correct.

I can see that both networks use exactly the same 2.4 and 5Ghz frequency.
