Hello everyone.
Been having a few problems with my central heating of late. It started when I was having a shower and the water temp kept fluctuating and there was a drop in pressure. My flat is rented so the landlord sent in a engineer, but on his arrival there was a power cut!! So unfortunately there was nothing he could do at that time. Well I can't get into contact with my landlord again until Jan 4th and I'm getting really hacked off. So as power is back I've had a go at recharging the boiler as I see the pressure has dropped under 1bar. So I turn the tap located under the boiler in a cupboard, but nothing happens?. You cant even hear water passing through. So I removed the recirc flexi pipe and turnt the tap and water started to gush out? But once the I reattach and try again, nothing. I did a bit of research and someone mentioned I needed a key, so I phoned a plumbmerchant who said yes I needed a key which I purchased for £7 or so. But there is nowhere to use this key?? I'm very confused and hacked off. Any help would be appreciated. My boiler is a Worcester 24i junior. ( I have downloaded the manuals but there is nothing about recharging)

Thanks

The charging link for your boiler was an optional extra and might not have been installed.

It sounds as if you may have a filling loop instead. This is a braided hose connecting one pipe ( CH return) to another pipe (cold water inlet)

Sometimes these filling loops have two taps that you have to turn. It is clear that one of your taps works fine. But either - you have a tap with a missing head, or that it dosen't have another tap but a double check valve instaed. Maybe this valve is kapput.

Can you post some pics? or send them via mobile?

I have located the filling loop, but when I turn the tap the pressure does not rise. And I cant hear water passing through....

Yeah so I do appear to have a filing loop with a tap at each end. Now when I turn these taps nothing seems happen. So I removed this loop and tried each tap and once turned water gushed out of each one of them. Am I doing something wrong?

pressure gauge might be stuck

incoming water pressure is to low

Mmmm either your incoming main pressure is extremely low - your pressure gauge is giving a false reading - or the double check valve is stuck.

Is the loop as I described - ie a chromed breaided hose connecting onto two chrome taps with blue or black plastic heads?

Yep thats it. The water pressure is lower thsnt normal but I wouldn't say it was extremely low...

What isn't your boiler doing right now? is it not working in CH or hot water mode? what are the symptoms.

Even if the pressure has dropped to just under one bar - it should still work. You may have an underlying fault with the boiler.

Then you have a boiler fault. It may be that the domestice hot water sensor has gone to fault or the max burner pressure needs adjusting or the domestic hot water turbine is faulty.

You need a gas safe registered engineer to diagnose properly.
