Hi All,

I've got 6 or 7 hinges on my front door, unfortunately the top 2 hinges are starting to come out of the frame and need screwing back in again. However I can't seem to work out how to get the hinges off to screw them back in.
They have no grub screw or other screw that I can see apart from the the very top of the hinge has what looks like a flat head screw driver slit in it but this is very thin and I can't get anything bigger than a precision screw driver into which is far to small.

Can any one help with this?

Pics below

Very very old hinge, most hinges of this type have a tiny grub screw holding the hinge pin in place, usually visible when the door is open, remove grub screw and knock hinge pin out, upwards usually.

IF still no grub screw found then it could be that the hinge pin unscrews, that could explain the slot in the top of it OR that could just be the sideways/back and forth adjustment as the pin will be cranked or with a slight cam effect along its length, try knocking it out

Thanks for that. I think I am at the point of trying to knock it out.

Should of said, when the door is open there is no grub screw visible.

Might try and convince the wife we need a new front door instead!

Ok with no grub screw the pin should either knock out as is or will need unscrewing a certain amount to clear the threads and then knock out.

Technically you don't need a new door, just possibly need to reposition the hinges in another spot, if the screws have pulled out then either the door isn't steel reinforced and the screws have stripped their threads or it is but the screws have just come loose

That's a good point, Due to the age of them (only owned the house for a couple of months) I might spray with some WD40 and try and turn them either with a thin knife or the precision screwdriver. If still not budging then given them a tap.

Cheers
