I have unprotected PV panel wiring running vertically top to bottom of the wall through a stud partition. In making the wall good, I want to put capping lengths behind the plasterboard to inhibit anyone who has the house after me accidentally drilling into the cables and possibly getting a severe shock. Any advise as to how to best recess the capping so as not to make the plasterboard 'patch' proud of the wall?

Thats not what capping is for, its to stop the cables being damaged by the plasterer, nothing more.
