Captain Kane

Kane is exceptional in other ways... Without ever peacocking around promoting his brand, without really trying he remains the most likable, authentic, role-model-ish modern-day England player. For a man who never talks big or acts big he has a happy knack of becoming the key player wherever he goes. Perhaps Kane has become cool now. He has always been likable, with that mild-mannered air of a kindly Victorian chimney sweep with a hamster in his waistcoat watch pocket. :D In the Bayern years, Kane has become leaner, more glossed and handsome, jawline, tan, iconic Vampire hairline. [Barney Ronay in t'Garuniad.]

Second only to the immortal Sir Bobby Moore as England captain and all-time leading goal scorer: right foot or left from a 30-yard screamer to a snap shot in the box, he can strike fear into an opposing defence from anywhere, anytime. A man who not only broke the England goals chart but destroyed the record with room to spare. And he hasn't finished yet. Sports Personality of the Year (probably) and surely on the shortlist for a well deserved knighthood.

Take a bow, sir, Harry Kane.

I liked it that he thanked everyone that has been part of his life. All his previous football coaches, managers, Tottenham, Bayern, parents, wife, kids. Seems like a real nice bloke. Thoroughly deserved.

Certainly deserved, but maybe only possible with Messi out if the way.
