Car feels like it is still accelerating when brakes applied

Hi When I am applying the brakes, the engine feels like it is still wanting to move forward, and then sounds like it would cut out if i applied to breaks fully
any advice appreciated, Thanks

is it your gear pulling and its coming close to a stall? what speed is this at?

Have you any record of the auto transmission fluid having been replaced at any time?

Engine speed at idle (tick-over) may well be excessive, due to an air leak into the inlet manifold.

Thanks for the reply, as far as I know the transmission oil has not been changed for a long time, I haven't driven since last week as I was away, but this morning when I went to go out in it, it isnt pulling as though its out of gear, then it went ok again, thn wouldn't pull, I got it home , but now I will have to see if its repairable, so any further advice would be gratefully recieved.

If you think the cars transmission is shifting out of gear and then in gear again, the only thing you can do is to check the transmission oil level (check hot - there will be a dipstick somewhere) and if thats ok then its off to an auto transmission specialist for advice.
Please don't get carried away with things here - auto box repairs can be horrendous.

Might be worth trying it in 1 or 2 instead or D?
Filter in the bottom of the transmission hopefully blocked?

Even a fluid change alone won't be cheap......I've always found the magnetic catchers do an excellent job on auto's, leaving the main filter to catch the odd bit.
Still don't like 'em though!

I agree John, but the new 7 speed autos must be a dream to drive, with all those little shifts and 2 overdrive gears, magic.

Indeed they are a fantastic bit of kit....but I'd be nervous if the car got out of warranty!
I don't see many autos but of the ones I do-

1998 Clio - would change by itself, complete mind of its own
07 Honda Jazz - recall to have a higher grade trans fluid put in but OK for now!
