Car was slow to warm up

I wonder if anyone can shed light on something peculiar. I have just had the timing belt repalced on my car, at the same time I had the water pump and thermostat replaced. I had no reason to think either of these were faulty but because of the labour invloved in reaching them I got them done at the same time.

Anyway now my car seems to warm up much quicker. It reaches 90 degress on the coolant temp within about 5 minutes, before it would take about 10-12. Could it be that my previous thermostat was faulty and was stuck open?
 
Doubt if it was stuck fully open or engine would never reach max operating temp. Probably tired/sticky not fully closing when cold.
 
The new one has probably got a slightly higher opening temperature. 89 degrees for example instead of 82 for the old one. So the engine warms up more quickly.
 
Yes I thought it would never reach 90 if was stuck completely open.

Mursal - There are two thermostats listed in the parts catalogue with different temps so think you could be right. I didn't ask which one they put on.
