to eliminate a faulty alarm it is definately good advice to run another alarm in tandem.
make a note of any appliances that have been on recently that burn a fossil fuel before the alarm has sounded off and make sure that the alarm has sounded off the full alarm chirps because a faulty alarm in some cases will chirp like a smoke detector does when its batteries are faulting.
a boiler in a bedroom can be potentially lethal if it is leaking Co, an easy example is your asleep with the heating on and you become overcome with fumes end of!!
if there is a vertical flue on this appliance check it through the roof space and make sure it looks intact
BEST ADVICE IS NOT TO USE THIS APPLIANCE UNTIL IT HAS BEEN CHECKED SAFETY BY A REGISTERED GAS SAFE ENGINEER
