Care of Nubuck shoes

How are you supposed to do it? I understood a dry nylon brush would maintain the surface, but mine always look dull and scuffed as if they were dusty.

are they dirty?cant remember if this was for nubuck or suede but holding them over a kettle will clean them.try it at your own risk.
