Hi all,

The carpet on our stairs has come away on the third step up. Is this an easy fix for a handyman or is it new carpet for the entire stairs/hallway?

See photos.

Stairs can be one piece or several so if you can get matching carpet one step can be re-carpetted [or if there is enough stretch left on the existing it can be trimmed and relaid.]

It is fixable and if you have a bolster chisel you can do it yourself. Smooth up the carpet starting from the bottom of the vertical where it meets the tread below and it should take up the slack and then use a bolster chisel to direct the carpet into the nook of the step and keeping it firmly pressed against the join with one hand and cram in the carpet with the bolster, the aim being for the carpet to be gripped by the backwardly facing nails on the carpet gripper. The following video shows in detail at around 9 minutes onwards.
