Carpet underlay

Would like advice on the correct method of laying carpet underlay. I`ve read somewhere that you should lay it at right angles to the carpet and staple it down. Or do you lay the same direction as the carpet the underlay is tredaire softwalk. Any help is apprieciated thanks.

it really makes no difference just make sure its rubber side down ,it all depends on the width and length of the room of how many runs you can get off the roll of underlay ie if room is 12 ft x 12 ft it doesnt matter ,if a room is 15 + ft x 12 ft we would run it by the width
