laminate is a lot noisier, and looks scruffy when it gets worn.
You can clean it with a damp mop.
It shows dust and dirt.
It does not harbour dust mites, spiders etc and does not stain easily from spills.
It is currently fashionable,so in a few years you can be sure it will go the way of stone cladding, lava lamps, pink shagpile, avacado baths and plastic front-doors.

I you've got a bit more of a budget than Melamine Laminate you could consider wood-engineered flooring. Not noisy (when you use the proper underlayment that has to with it) and very easy to clean. And it doesn't go the way of stone cladding or lava-lamps
