Hi, faced with the situation where a 15ft section of guttering has a slight dip in the middle, so water collects and doesn't run to the downpipe at one end. I suspect its when the roof was re-tiled a couple of years ago (leaning a ladder against it etc), and has only beed noticed now since on of the joints is leaking.

It would be possible to replace it all with plastic, but don't want to start a 'small' job and have days of work (is not even my house!). Assuming the brackets etc are still sound could I just get a plank of wood and try pushing them back upward by an inch or so to try and return the original gradient? Or do these tend to be fairly brittle and not likely to be persuaded?

Do not prod it with a piece of wood or the lot could come down on you. It has probably been there a long time and some of the fixings have rusted through, and that is why it is sagging.

Agree with catlad. Probably best to do it soon, they can be quite heavy. Not the kind of thing you want landing on your noggin. I would recommend replacing the lot as it may well be in other areas too. UPVC is quite easy to fit so shouldn't take too long.

Leaning a ladder against cast gutters will not make them drop unless the brackets are rotten, you may get away with renewing the failed brackets to get it back into line.
Not really a job for diy though.
