Hi,

I am asking on behalf of a friend who has a combi boiler system in a normal sized 3 bed semi.
He intends to swap a normal radiator for an old cast iron one as this is the look he is after.
The question is if he alters the pipework to suit the new cast rad will the pipework being in 15mm be ok for the new rad or is it likely to cause problems?
Not 100% sure of the size of the cast radiator but think its approx 800 by 600.
Also are both flow and return ok to come in and come out the bottom like a normal radiator instead of in the top one end and out the bottom the other end?

Thank you for your time.

15 will be fine for a rad that size, also bottom opposite connections should be no problem, just advise if it's a real cast radiator (as in a prev used one) he flushes that rad out thoughrouly before fitting it so as not to introduce dirt/debris into system

Brilliant advice thank you.
It looks an old one and he has had it blasted and powder coated looks pretty nice actually.
Point taken about the debris inside it though.
Think he was worried that 15mm wouldn't give it sufficient flow being as it would have been connected previously to bigger pipework.

Yea. Very possibly could have been 3/4 inch or inch iron pipe. Top bottom opposite ends, but that would have been on a gravity heating circuit originally. A radiator of average size ie less than 2meters in length should have no issue at all on 15mm pipe on a pumped system
