cast iron skylight

Hi , i have just replaced the glass in my cast iron skylight.
I now want to paint the cast iron and the putty.
Is there a bitumen type product available that can be used to paint both the frame and the putty? Or should i do each individually? If so which products do i need?

Or should i prime and use regular paint?

i have only painted the cast parts of the skylights in the past Bob.
dont know if the hammerite would adhere to the putty.
