Cast Iron Soil Pipe

Hi all.

Just a quick one. I've seen on a few different post notes about replacing the horizontal portion of a cast soil pipe when fitting new toilets, but its not really possible for me.

the run from the soil stack to existing toilet goes straight from the stack in to the house direct and there's only a 2" gap between the stack and the house. t e new toilet needs to sit flush against the wall really.

can i use these flexible connectors (110 to cast) to connect on the vertical run of the soil stack?

Yes, but usually you would need to replace all c.i. above the cutting point with plastic.

Its worth doing in most cases but a lot of work.

Best off a scaffold rather than a ladder!

Cool. i think it'll be worth doing as the cast thats above the junction point in to the bathroom is falling apart anyway

Obviously im not going to be digging up in my drive so will it make just different how far up the joint is made? i was think of simply cutting it off aruond a foot or two above ground level and then starting from plastic from then on

Also, i take it that the run which goes from the toilet to the new joint in the soil stack should have a slight fall to it also?

I strongly recommend wearing a hard hat when doing any work on c.i.

I like the hard hat advice, am thinking of cutting it off in small manageable chunks too rather that letting it fall and smash on the drive.......can't be bothered cleaning all the bits up

Get some ropes round it so it can lowered down slowly if possible, and won't move or fall too much when it comes away from the wall.
I could have sold tickets when I took down my old C.I. stack...

You want to put the things up molten lead in a ladle and no ppe in sight

Good idea with the rope, I'm sure there will still be a calamity though, ain't fun without one
