Dear All

Went ot see a car with 28000 mile son a 54 plate but after an HPI check where eevrything showed OK BUT stated car was a cat D insurance Write Off!!!!

What doe shtis mean and should the seller ahv declared it!!! Also doe sit affect resell / but value??? Chap wanted £4200. car was immaculate and drove really well, like a new car!!
 
"The motor insurance industry's Code of Practice for the Disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage describes category D salvage as vehicles which could be economically repaired by the insurer but instead are written off for other reasons, for example, to minimise replacement hire car costs that would fall to the insurers if the crash damaged vehicle took some time to repair."

I take it the car has been repaired. Yes, I should have thought the seller has a duty to disclose the history, if he knows it. And yes, it's bound to affect the selling price, depending on the original damage and the quality of the repair.
