Caulk for stair strings that won't crack?

Need to caulk the gap between stair string and wall. I know for a fact caulk is going to crack. Is there a better (over paintable) sealant to use in this area with more elasticity? PU sealant perhaps?

You could try an elastomeric caulk, they are better than standard.
