Have a joist inserted into cavity wall with a very large gap in the brickwork. It is around a chimney in the attic. Should this be sealed. The joist seems to be going into the hole the depth of the brick. Concerned as about to have my loft insulated with another 200mm of insulation that will cover this. Do not know if this is an building fault or area of concern. All the attic joists are running horizontal to this picture so this must be used as load bearing for the couple of joists on this side of the chimney. Please see picture.
