CD and DVD recording

I have a Samsung DVD recording drive. It came with a trial verion of Nero, but on expiry of the trial perion (upgrade costs about £55) I am unable to record CDs or DVDs. I could have sworn there was a MS CD burner that came with Win XP

If there a cheap or free burner I can get?

I appear to have something called InCD on the PC.
