Hi. I am building a gazebo and am tiling the roof with cedar shingles. Does anyone have any tips, guidance or ideas about how best to create a waterproof hip joint? I don't really want to make ridge tiles out of the shingles as this looks tricky.

Any ideas gratefully received.

Thanks

Your supplier may be able to provide you with pre-machined hip units, otherwise they just need machining a little to get the angle right. There is no reason to think that a hip created with shingles will fail, why ruin the beautiful look of your shingles with a non-matching hip? Presumably you've got an underlay anyway if it did ever fail, you could always double it up too.

Your supplier should be able to supply details really but the principles are the exactly the same world-over for Shingles eg http://www.silvatimber.co.uk/media/...edar-shingles-shakes-application-handbook.pdf

Hi. Thanks. My supplier does not have the made up ridge tiles so it looks as though I shall have to make them up!! More sawing!
