I discovered this morning that my plaster and lath ceiling in the kitchen was bowing and water dripping onto the floor.

Have been round with my silicon gun on all the sanitaryware upstairs.

Should I drill a small hole to ease the pressure on the ceiling?

I think you may need to call a plumber!

Going round with a silicone gun on the sanitary ware won't do much for a leak on a pipe.

drill that small hole - then get onto your insurers - they may have " recommended Plumbers" That L+P ceiling will fall as sure as the sun rises

I'd empty everything out of your kitchen and get ready for the ceiling to collapse in the near future.

This will likely be an insurance job in the very near future!

Why insurance? Get the old stuff down, get plasterer to redo ceiling, about £400. Not worth paying the excess, nevermind the increased premiums.
