ceiling damage/discolouration

Daughter managed to let bath overflow and now the kitchen ceiling has brown stains running all along plaster board joints. Any advice on what paint will cover stains as emulsion has no affect. Any help appreciated.

You will get rid of the brown water stains on ceilings/walls etc,,, permanantly,,, by painting over them with white "oil based undercoat", the smelly stuff. Better using a roller to do it too, and open the window to let the fresh air in,,, just for the day.
