Please help.I want to replace ceiling light controled by two way switch by ceiling fan light combo.i want wall mounted controler so light and fan can be controled independently.where can i buy such fans.Would it need extra wiring.Fans and light combo widely available from stores such as B&Q are normaly pull card operated. Can they be operated through wall operated switch independently.

<makes plumber-style sucking noise thru teeth> ooooh thats getting a bit expensive, that! AFAIK, only "commercial" fans will have this facility.

Cheap way of doing it is to have a fan and a seperate light (downlights would look good IMO)! the fan can have a fan controller mounted on the wall (tlc sell these) and the lights can be on a dimmer (not sure if the fan controller is actually just a dimmer though, if this is the case, have a 2g dimmer!)

Any particular reason you dont want the fan controlled by pull cord.?

I dont like them either - its neater to have a switch on the wall.

If I've understood the question correctly, I have one of these lights and just leave the pullcords in the 'on' position and then use wall switches for turning on and off - separate feeds for fan and light. If you really can't stand the cords, you could always cut them off.

As i mentioned the only light is in central ceiling position ann is controlled by two way switch.Room is already decorated.I only have one option to replace it with fan light.Ceiling is about 10 feet high.would i need extra wiring if i buy fan light with seperate wall switch.

First ceiling is about 10 feet high and i would need 18 inches down rod.I personely prefer controller on wall so fan speed can be controlled and also light can be dimmed.Existing light is on 2 way switch.Would i need extra wiring.

As you mentioned separate feeds for fan and light.Fanlight combo normaly available from diy stores such as B&Q are already wired. They only have two core and earth. If connected to existing light point ,fan and light would work through existing light switch.Do i need separate switch to control fan ,if so doi ineed extra wire for fan switch.Wiring diagram would help a lot. thank you.
