Ceiling Joints Visible

Our house is about 8 years old, wooden framed throughout with stud walls. The previous owner decided not to apply a skim finishing plaster to the plasterboard walls and ceilings, and until recently the taping and filling of the joints was not visible. However, over the winter a number of joints have become visible especially in the ceilings. The joints are not cracked per se but just visible and appear to be intact.

I fear that just applying another layer of emulsion may disguise the joins for a short time but not address the underlying problem. Should I find the original tape and rip out re-fill? Any help/suggestions gratefully received.

You can get an elastic type paint specially for dodgy ceilings. I'd try that before you start making a mess of things.
