We are trying to fit a light into the ceiling. We had the house rewired twelve months ago. Upon taking the light from ceiling we have the normal three wires but also an additional three brown wires going to a fourth connector that we do not have in the new light fitting. Please help

What do you mean by "the normal three wires"?

When you say wire, do you mean a cable with more than one conductor, or an individual conductor?

The normal (very common) thing to find is 3 twin & earth cables with a total of 9 conductors (not including the light itself) going to 4 terminals.

Please note that not all of the blues are neutrals, and the one which isn't won't necessarily be marked. Hopefully yours is, but if not you must keep track of which one is the switched live or it will all go horribly wrong.

Lights with just L/N/E connections and no place for the live loop to go are commonplace.

You should take some time out to learn how lighting circuits are wired before trying to fiddle with them.
