Ceiling Mount Extractor Fan DIY

Hi, im looking to self install an extractor fan in a bedroom ceiling. However i need to construct a wooden frame so i can mount the fan on the inside of the roof so it is just level with the ceiling in the bedroom. Can anyone advise me what type of wood to use? I am planning on having a 250mm diameter hole cut into the wooden piece to easily use as a mount as the fan already has mounting grips on its edges.

Nothing wrong with normal softwood.
