I've given my ceiling 5 coats and when the light catches it the streaks are horrendous . Is it the paint? ,(Johnsons Matt emulsion).
If so can anyone recommend one?

I've never had problems whenever using Johnstones but I always use trade range rather than standard.
Leyland, Glidden even Dulux (all trade) give great results. Vinyls can cause streaking/roller marks so you might prefer a contract matt, although the finish isn't quite as hard wearing.
Give the surface a very light sanding, (180/240 grit sandpaper) and dust off before you apply any more coats.

My ceiling was starting to fall so I pulled it down and need to replace it, but am not sure what to use. I removed horse hair plaster which was up to an inch/25mm thick and want the equivalent or better sound resistance. Can anyone recommend the appropriate thickness of plasterboard and/or should I use insulated board (I'm not that bothered about heat, but wouldn't mind if it insulates a bit better)?
