Hi,
have taped and jointed my sons ceiling-started to emulsion it and the paint is coming off in clumps/peeling off as i'm painting it!! Shall i seal it first with something? i've wiped the whole area over and over to get rid of excess dust but still the paint is peeling.

You need to prime/seal the ceiling before you paint it.
This can be done by either using a dry-wall sealer or the cheaper alternative is a mist coat, which will be a diluted solution of the emulsion paint you are using.
Some paints will give directions on the tin, how to prepare a mist coat.
The ratio of paint to water will differ depending on the quality of the paint.
Thicker paints will need more dilution it can range between 10-50%
But diluting the paint by 20% is normally okay.

where is the paint peeling is it just on the joints? if so rub down then just paint the joints first let dry then paint hole ceiling you dont need to mist coat as such but just add a little drop of water to help spread the paint as plasterboard is not like bare plaster which needs to be mist coated to seal it
