Hi Guys

my celtic ff boiler is doing strange things... i know its ancient, but need it to last a little longer as cant afford to replace it just yet!

It fires up on the heating, but builds pressure and then dumos all the water out the safety valve. We have taken the hose off to the pressure thing (big orange duwberyy round thing on the front) and that was solid, so cleaned it out with a coat hanger. It seems ok for a few mins, then starts burning realy furiously and then gets to over 3 bar and has a fit and dumos the water.

I notice when you switch the tap on its much worse, and burns yellow in the gas burner. It started off just bowing the pilot out (been told its a safety feature to shut the boiler down).

any ideas?? culd it be soe sort of thermostat problems?? or is it the pressure thing?

please help, got no heating or hot water...

With the flame burning yellow I would advise you turn it off and get a RGI in to check it asap.

Pressure could be the expansion vessel, a seperate issue I think. See FAQ's on how to check this.

Hi, It only does this when the hot water is on, and the pressure rises, then it goes yellow when the dube burn comes on. It has never done this before!

someone at a shop said it could be air getting into the system and my husband has found the fitting at the back of the pump is threaded and may be causing an air leak??

any further comments would be appreciated.
thanks

Its quite possible that something inside the combustion chamber is leaking and causing the yellow flame. If so then this is dangerous as is any other cause of a yellow flame.

The advice would be to get somebody qualified to look at it.

However, any competent boiler engineer will know how old it is and probably advise that its not worth repairing.

If you really cannot afford a new boiler then there are grant aided schemes operated by Warmfront for those on low incomes and benefits. You could contact them to see what help you may be entitled to.
