Hi all,

I have a Baxi fan flue wall hung combi lpg boiler, 7 years old and used in a workshop situation running 10 rads during the day only. Its only used in the winter when its cold and is completely shut down for 9 months of the year, so effectively it's had little use.

After the "summer shutdown", I came to turn it on recently and couldn't get it to work. The wall stat is lit, the green light on the boiler is lit, the water pressure is ok and theres plenty of LPG. All I can get is the pump running and thats it. Nothing else happens!

Can anyone give me a clue as to what could be causing the non running? Apparently the interior of the boiler is very damp (wet even) theres a fair bit of dust around and the atmosphere during the last few weeks has been cold and damp. I've been told that these conditions have caused the problem with diagnosis being a new fan and air switch needed. The fan spins freely btw and the air switch clicks when you blow/ suck on either of the plastic pipes. I'm not 100% convinced about this diagnosis and dont want to spend cash needlessly.

I guess my main question is - is cold, damp conditions and a boiler thats shut down for 9 months of the year a recipe for a breakdown!

Firstly although you say there is plenty of LPG, check the UPSO has not triggered, shutting off the gas supply.

If that is ok you need to check for 240V at the fan terminals.

when you say UPSO, is that some kind of reset button? Re. the fan terminals - yes theres 240V to them. I find it hard to believe the fans packed up because of lack of use or cold/ damp conditions given it spins freely.....

just wondering if anyone else can give some input on this as apparently the snow is coming and it 'll be perishing cold soon! Many thanks

actually, I can't understand how any of peoples queries get properly answered on here - around 50 new posts all asking for advice since 5pm tonight!!!! Why on earth don't the site owners charge a £1 per query or something, then the posts would be whittled down to the most demanding ones:rolleyes: or is sunday nights just busy lol
