Am sure there will be others who are au fait with your boiler in due course, but I suspect you'll be needing to call someone out.

I remember Mr Barker during one of his many stories telling how a boiler model the same as yours had burnt a whole through the back of the heat exchanger. A major fire and safety hazard I'd say. As I said, keep it off, get someone out. Ideal fixed price repair would be first choice but doubt they'd come out tomorrow. Worth a try though.
 
That is why I switched it off mickyg, the smell was worrying me. Thanks for your help.
