I currently have a combi-boiler with a room stat controlling the temperature. This room stat is located in the hall (yes, I know it probably shouldn't be located here!!). My problem is the radiators are too hot, so I am considering installing TRV's to control the temperature per room. My question is, do I need a room stat at all when I have TRV's?

You still need the room stat.

If the rads are too hot then turn down the temperature on your boiler.

I get lots of people who complain the rads are too cold, but rarely that they are too hot. What makes you say they are too hot, and how hot are they? Tony is right, you always need a roomstat, it is probably the most essential part of the controls.
