Hi, We have an Ideal Isar HE30 combi condensing boiler approx 2.5 years old - last serviced in July 09 - so not long ago. Been running fine till now. Scottish Hydro service it but won't put it on maintenance contract.
For the last few days the central heating isn't kicking in when we turn the thermostat up - that's how I control the heating - lazy I know. We went through the troubleshooting list re the wireless system but they're all talking to each other fine - the green light on the receiver is showing that the heating is on - but nothing happens with the boiler - by the way hot water is fine.
I have though been able to kick start the heating by turning the boiler off both at its switch and at the mains - turning them back on after a few seconds - and then using the remote thermostat control. Doesn't always work.
Also up until now no fault codes showing - now for the second time it shows a "d".
Called out an engineer 2 days ago, who came 10 minutes before I had to leave to pick up daughter from school (despite saying don't come at this time) - who immediately said "Don't know who serviced it but I bet they didn't do it properly" - what's this with always criticising earlier workmen! He had a quick look and suggested that he comes back and gives it a full strip down service. Approx cost £150 - this involves replacing some parts that apparently need to be replaced regularly.
Is he right, any suggestions as to what it could be and could we fix ourselves for cheaper?
Much appreciate any help/advice you can give
Angela
