Hi, I'm considering moving a central heating oil tank, and putting it next to an outbuilding constructed of thick sandstone walls. The adjacent wall has no windows, and the eves are high enough above the tank not to be a problem. The building regs state if the tank is installed within 1.8m of a building, the walls must have at least 30 minutes fire resistance. Also the base should extend 300mm on all sides beyond the edge of the tank.

1. Are sandstone walls classified as having 30 minutes fire resistance, or is it decided, or tested, on a case by case basis?

2. If the 'base' is actually the ground, does the tank need to be sited 300mm away from the wall, to meet the overhang requirement?

Thanks!
