Central Heating Possessed By Demons...

Hi all, firstly let me state that i am not in any way a plumber, gasman or in any way knowlegable of central heating systems, so apart from the thermostats on the ends of the radiators, i really don't know what's going on under the floors and inside the big white box that lives in the kitchen.

Until the past few days, i haven't had to think about it, but now it's gone mental. I disconnected it's mains supply last night because of the noises coming from the radiators (which were only really warm at the bottom half and pipe connections by this point anyway) which sounded like water trickling into them, and with the boilers pressure gauge reading a grand total of zero, i shut it off. I aint taking chances with gas appliances. But it's December and it's Glasgow! So i switched it's mains back on and eventually worked out that a re-setable trip had opened on it's roof...reset that and it fired up...but the awful trickling noise has returned (but at least hot water and radiators have too The pressure gauge is still without life too however...it's stuck at zero, I would like to ask someone with experience what on earths going on, and is there a danger having it running?

I am an electrical/electronic engineer, and if it were an electrical heating system, i would have a helluva lot more confidence with regards to faults and such, but i am a total ignoramus with respects to gas c/h systems and the issues caused by them.

My boiler is a Worcester 24i and it supplies 7 radiators and the hot water. I think the instalation was recent, perhaps even new when i moved into my flat about 5 months ago, but the flat wasnt used for months prior to that. The landlord is a friend who lives abroad, so it's an issue i've been landed with and need some advice.

Foist thing you have to do is get it filled with water. Instructions are on the Worcester website - it would take us as long to dig out as you, so have a look and come back if you have problems. Might be under "obsolete boilers" by now.:

Look for the filling loop (silver braided flexi hose) normally under the boiler. Open one or both valves a raise pressure to 1 on the guage. Bleed all rads and repeat. Turn boiler back on and all will be well in Glasgow

Hi, many thanks, i'll do what you both suggest...a silver braided hose? There aint any hose coming from my boiler...oh jeezus, should there be?

worc 24i could possibly have the internal filling loop on the jnr range the key is white shaped like a tee, on the other ranges the key is larger but the process is the same stick the key in the orifice on the rhs of the boiler rotate a quarter turn open valve to the left of the key knurled knob turnsclockwise,you will hear water rushing in at one bar turn off ,turn key anti clkwise and remove.better instructions come with the boiler.
