We have just bought a 2003 VW Beetle 1.6l. The central locking opens both doors fine, but does not lock the passenger door. Anybody know what could be causing this?

does the key lock and unlock both doors when used manually in the door?
Actually it all seems very intermittent, sometimes it opens both doors sometimes it locks them; this is with key in lock or with remote. The only constant is that the driver's door opens and locks, the problem seems to be the passenger door.
sounds like you have a faulty connection somewhere, favourite is the wiring loom that goes into the door near the hinge area
