Can you use existing cess pits to put new pipe work in , or do you have it to renew , we are doing a renovation job , we have found the old cess pit , but only one manhole for about 5 existing wc s !

I presume you mean septic tank - a cess pit is simply a (maybe water-tight) hole in the ground with no outfall.

I would be very wary of using any existing cesspit or old septic tank unless it has been checked and tested. It must be a fair old property with 5 WC's, add the additional flow from laundry, bathing etc and that's a lot of water to get rid of.

Any septic tank is only as good as the soakaway on the outlet, but if the tank is too small for the incoming flow you'll find a lot of suspended solids getting washed through into the soakaway which will soon render it useless....
