Recommendations for dirty water pump

Hi all,

wonder if anyone can help advise on a suitable dirty water pump.

The situation is, we're off mains sewerage, and all our water, including water from the roofs heads through a Klargester sewage treatment plan, and into an old cess pit. This probably has never been cleaned out properly (not sure how to... if anyone has any ideas).

The problem we have, is as all the water is processed in this manner, we need to pump water out of the cess pit to ditches around the farmers fields around, however due to the amount of water, any pumps we use, don't tend to last very long. I'm looking for advise on anyone in a similar situation and can recommend a pump which will last.

Long term (ie next year or two), we're looking to have a new extension built, and get attentuation crates installed in the drive, to handle surface water, which should then significantly reduce the amount of water needing pumping.

I would look at the ABS range of pumps.

If you have rain water flowing through a treatment plant surely untreated effluent is being discharged so would be illegal?
You need to find an alternative means of disposal for your rain water so the treatment plant can work properly

Thanks, that's the plan, however the way the klargester works is that only clean water leaves the unit as any solid waste is trapped in the different sections. This it seems to do very effectively.

Unfortunately we moved into our house and found this setup, and while it's far from ideal, until we get planning permission sorted, it's the only option we have.

I'm looking for guidance on a pump, if you have any advise?

Obviously it needs sorting properly with a soakaway.


As a temporary thing, can you not divert the rainwater somewhere else? If you catch it above ground, it won't need pumped?

And could you break a few holes in the cess pit to let some of the water out of that?
