I have read in a few CH installation guides that the header tank should be positioned as close to vertical above the boiler as possible.
Can you tell me what the reason for this is.
As in our property the airing cupboard with the pump ext is ~6m run from were the boiler will be positioned and I was planning on having it above that.

Thanks

It's a safety thing. The vent from the boiler should be a continuous rise from the boiler, which as hard to organise if the pipe has to go sideways. Mfrs instructuions normally allow a metre or two.

If its a problem just seal the system (depends on which boiler). If its a new installation there should be no problem at all. You'll need an expansion vessel (which can go in the airing cupd say), and fil loop, pressure guage and pressure safety relief pipe through the wall. Your system will possibly work better and certainly stay cleaner, and there's no loft tank to freeze.

Would it be acceptable to have the feed and vent pipes rising of the flow from the boiler, to keep header tank above it. While keeping the pump ~6m away in the airing cupboard. Or is this to far from the pump to be effective.

I'm not over keen on the thought of a sealed system.
Just have pictures of a catastrophic joint failure.
Dont have the experience to have that level of confidance in my soldering.

Thanks

Just water pipes for bath room, kitchen etc(nothing that takes more than maines water presser).
I presser test all that I can to 3bar (I have read that pressurized systems should be check to 10 bar. don't think I could pump that hard its bad enouth a 3) most my dry gadge will go to.
I will / am also using plastic pipe with push fit under the flours with copper running behind the plaster board (Using copper as capillary fittings are a lower profile and fit in the gap). So I also have concerns about strength of the bond between the copper pipe and the speedfit elbows(If you pull hard enough it will come out).
