Help, we planted approx 30+ of the above conifers in January, just along both sides of the fence in the back garden, just to soften the look,But, the center of the foliage has gone a golden/yellow colour, but the external ones are a blue/green colour as purchased, inour extensive gardening book it does show a specimen that is golden,Are we about to loose them completely,or is this normal, soil is good, but below approx 10"- 12" is clay.

Normal.

Don't know how you had the energy to dig 10 feet down to inspect the soil type but it doesn't matter anyway :D

I hope I can help. A bloke opposite us did exactly the same with Cypress hedging... and they went yellowy brown. He planted them at the height of summer and didn't water them for ages. I'm assuming that you didn't do this? If it's any consellation, they seem to be recovering now as he's installed a drip watering system. Would have been a huge amount of money down the drain if they had bitten the dust.
