Changing a 3 wire roomstat to a digital 2 wire

luddite1 - solid state electronics, in ambient temperatures, without dirt or vibration very, very, rarely, if ever, go wrong. EVER.

WOW. There is an understatement if I ever saw one. You have never come across capacitors going high ESR, or LED segments failing? What a sheltered world you must live in!

Maybe. Seems additional complication (i.e. things to go wrong) for no gain however.
Less 'complicated' perhaps, but as luddite has said, the much more satisfactory temperature-sensing in an electronic one means that there is far less (if any) need to have an 'accelerator' to compensate for the inadequacies (high hysteresis) of the temperature sensing.

Kind Regards, John

Yeah, bi-metallic strips or mechanical control is postively 1000% more reliable right?!? If my life is sheltered compared to your colourful, vibrant and oh-so-much more experienced than my way then I'm more than happy with my lot, thanks. You keep with your mechanical automotive ignition and distributor, stuck on the hard should of the M4 in the pouring rain with a can of WD40, I'll stick with my electronic equivalent, on neither the hard shoulder nor in the rain. Go You!!!
