Hi.

Wondering if anyone can help? i want to swap an old 3 way light switch in the hall but the markings are different. The old one has A COM, A 1 WAY, A 2 WAY ETC and the new switch has COM, L1, L2 etc. The switch controls the hall light, porch light and landing light.

Have attached a pic of the current set up. There is an Earth attached to the back box and 2 neutrals together in a block behind. Thanks in advance!

A COM = COM
A 1 WAY = L1
A 2 WAY = L2

Thanks for the reply Holmslaw. I had a go at that yesterday as thought that to be the obvious solution. I did use an old switch i had knocking around though. The landing light did work but seemed dimmer that usual, the porch light didnt work and hall light seemed fine. Also was getting some crackling noises from the switch so presumed it need wiring differently. Would those symptons be likely that the switch was knackered or is there another way to wire it? Thanks.

Sounds like the switch is indeed cream crackered, why are you using a switch that's knocking about in exchange for the exisitng switch? Is that not working correctly?

Yeah, the rockers are getting a bit stiff to press so want to change it. Will go get a new one and give it a bash.

Cheers.
