Hello,
Is an electrician allowed to change meter tails?
If yes, How can he get the sealer to seal the fuse and the meter?

If on the test certificate it says for 1mm cable 5 amp supplying to lights "Fuse very high rated for cable size" How can this problem be rectified?

Thanks for any help.

Hello,

1. Yes, an electrician can replace meter tails, so long as he does not have break the networks 'seals'.
2. The fuse should be replaced with one that is correct for the size of cable that it is protecting as soon as possible, maybe working out the 'load' on the circuit you could get the max demand/diversity factors ??

These test sheets ? Were they an approved contractor with a part P body that issued you with the certs please ? Did you get a full test cert and what code did they put down for this 'high rated fuse' please ??

Many thanks

Ed.

Are you saying they noted 5amp and 1mm as unacceptable?

Maybe it is a rewirewable 5amp carrier with to large a CSA of fusewire?

Metertails are best left connected to the old with loose henley blocks, and the DNO (lecky board) informed. They will then attend and put the tails in to the meter and seal. My DNO (WPD) charge £25 for do this, £18 if it is earthing only.
