Hi, my old toilet cistern needs replacing and it has an external overflow. I've just read somewhere that all new toilets and cisterns by law are fit with internal overflows. Can I just take my old one out and replace with the new style or will I need to do a conversion? Hope that makes sense
Any advice will be much appreciated

As long as the existing overflow discharges correctly then you can keep it. In short, you must be able to see the discharge and not risk water backing up to the pipe in any circumstance.

If you are replacing the whole cistern then yes you can just replace it making your overflow pipe redundant. Water then flows into the pan.

Make sure your toilet cistern is not a 9 litre cistern because if you fit a new cistern which are 6 litres, your new cistern will/might not clear the contents on the first flush.
