If you are in DP's coverage area then he is one of the small number of engineers whom I would be happy to recommend as someone who is honest and is unlikely to overcharge. Search locally for Ranoch Services.

The other possibility is a fixed price repair from British Gas.

A non working boiler is often a smaller fault than one that partially works.

Any boiler should be expected to last at least 10 years, even a ferolli shoudl give 8 years !

hiya,
i switched on combi and the heating thermostat on, and bar was 0,1 so fixed that, after i tried hot water and amazingly i got hot water. but after i turned tap off i waited to hear that sound of combi that you know heating is on and it's not. burner symbol disapearred and never showed up again. fan symbol also.the combi is still on but 15 minutes passed and still radiators are cold, not a slight sign of heating up. i hope at least hot water will stay on for goodness sake!
also combi is dripping water from time to time, do you think it's ok to leave it on so i can have hot water or will it be dangerous and maybe it's better i switch it off again?
dP, can you please come and have a look at it, i stay in coatbridge. can you let me know please.thanks

The fact that boiler is not working at all is a good start. Fault is there and can be found.

Check boiler is not switched off on the wall plate
Check boiler pressure.
Check ON/ OFF button. Green light on switch should be on

Would be OTT to replace boiler when there might not be much wrong with it.

By the way, I am looking at the boiler manual and see no tank in it let alone two tanks.

I dont know if you have heard back from DP but I stay in Hamilton, and I can come up and have a look tomorrow night to see what the problem is, if DP doesn't get back to you as a back up to get you back up and running.

Hiya mate, dont know how ur getting on with your business but im in the same boat and thinkin bout settin up myself (plumber).

Have you tried the PSYBT (google it) they offer u a low interest loan up to £5000 which is not bad and their advice is top notch. they used to give u a grant but think its ran out this year.

How is things going with getting work and stuff as im a bit anxious bout goin it alone?

I wasn't trying to steal work from Danny, I was just suggesting that if Danny doesn't get back to her or its too far away for him then I am local too and I am able to help her.

25 years is "over 10 years".

If anyone is not competent fixing boilers after 10 years they are never likely to be.

I would usually even say 3 years but a few more years gives more chances of seeing some of the more unusual boilers that we can encounter. Elm Leblanc, Gem, Geminox, Trisave etc.
